Cody Maverick

Cody Maverick is the main protagonist of the movie Surf's Up. He is voiced by Shia Labeouf. He is Glen Maverick's younger brother,  Edna Maverick and Bob Maverick's  son, Chicken Joe's best friend and lani's love interest.

His species is a rock hopper penguin and he is from the fictional town of Shiverpool in Antarctica. His dream is to compete in the Big Z Memorial Surf off on Pen Gu Island, where all big surfers are invited to attend on a yearly basis.

Cody feels trapped, in a dead end job at the age of 17 on the Fish Sorting piles in their town. Cody aspires to become the best surfer ever, like his hero Big Z. Cody is constantly judged because he is 'different' according to everyone else in the town. His brother Glen Maverick constantly teases him and his mother constantly worries about what people think of Cody.

When the Talent Scout from Pen Gu Island arrives to search for 'fresh new talent' Cody jumps at the opportunity, but when Mikey does not see the talent in Cody, Mikey decides its a no to taking him on a whale to compete in the biggest Surfing contest in the world. Cody does not quit and perseveres and chases after the Whale which would take him away from his dead end life and off to his surfing dreams.
