At one point, Peter caught onto a scheme spearheaded by Kingpin and Doc Ock. Peter found out about the Super-Collider and the risks that it posed: a black hole opening beneath Brooklyn and the collapse of the space-time continuum. Peter made an override key and went to the site of the collider to use the key to destroy the collider before it could destroy Brooklyn.
Peter was caught by Green Goblin, however, and the two battled until he noticed Miles Morales getting caught in the crossfire. Peter saved him and, with his Spider-Sense, immediately realized that he had abilities like him. Peter offered to take Miles under his wing and help him through his adjustment period. Peter returned to his battle but was ultimately stopped by Kingpin's goons, specifically the Green Goblin and Prowler, and Peter was unable to plug in his key before Kingpin activated the collider. An enraged Green Goblin picked him up and shoved him directly into the path of the collider's beams. This caused the device to overload and explode. Unbeknownst to them, his contact with the beam also summoned Spider-People from other dimensions.
The explosion killed the Goblin and left Peter severely injured. Miles approached him and Peter gave him the override key, asking him to continue with his mission to destroy the collider. Hearing Kingpin's approach, Peter asked Miles to go and confronted Fisk on his own. Powerless, Peter could only sit back while Fisk unmasked him. Pleading with him to not use the machine because of the risks, Peter told Fisk that before the Collider exploded, he saw in it what Fisk was trying to accomplish—getting his family from other dimensions—and pointed out that it wouldn't work. This angered Kingpin, who brutally killed him already mortally wounded Peter by smashing him under his fists.
The news of his death and identity broke to the city later that night, though Kingpin's involvement was not known, with Kingpin even putting up an act of grieving by throwing a gala in his memory, and his death was associated to the last of the recent earthquakes, also caused by the collider. A heartbroken city attended his funeral and listened to the eulogy delivered by Peter's wife, Mary Jane Parker.
Peter's words and acts of heroism later inspired the Miles to eventually take up the mantle himself. Miles became determined to follow through with Peter's dying request that he destroy the collider, even insisting to a group of volunteering and experienced Spider-People that he would do it himself. Miles eventually succeeded, even using Peter's trick to propel himself up and around the collider's own machinery to get to the panel on the ceiling where the goober that could be used to control and destroy the machine was to be inserted.
