Physical appearance[]

Rio is a beautiful Puerto Rican woman with dark skin and dark brown hair in a braided ponytail. On her right ear is a gold hoop earring. She wears EMT attire with brown pants and white sneakers.

Appearances[]

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse[]

On the day that Miles would start at his new school, she would ask him to hurry up with his packing and kiss him many times at the door before he left.

Rio and Jeff knew that Miles was struggling to adjust to his new school, Brooklyn Visions Academy. When Miles returned home one night, she welcomed him wholeheartedly, asking Jeff to understand what their son was going through. That night, she and Jeff watched in shock as news of Spider-Man's death was broadcast.

Miles became unreachable for days after this, worrying Rio and Jeff, only to resurface by calling Jeff on the night of the last earthquake, during which she was at the hospital helping evacuate their patients.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse[]

Rio and Jeff meet with Mrs. Weber, Miles's counselor to discuss his grades. Later after Miles arrives to the meeting, she reveals his grades which are good at first until she gets to Spanish, which Miles has a B in. This upsets her, and she snaps her fingers at him, with Miles saying that it's not his fault, with Rio getting more upset. When Miles tells his parents how many classes he missed in Spanish, he shocks them by saying 5, with Mrs Weber saying it's actually 6, and Rio commenting on how he's dead.

Later, in the conversation, Mrs. Weber says that Miles' family is a struggling immigrant family, with Rio commenting on how she is from Puerto Rico, with Puerto Rico being part of America. Mrs Weber says Miles' dream is to attend the top rated physics program in the nation at Princeton University in New Jersey. Rio is shocked by this and says that it's too far and when Miles says how New Jersey is supposedly "far" from Brooklyn, Rio says that there are many great schools in Brooklyn.

Miles says that the university has the quantum researchers in the country, and that they are moving electrons across dimensional threshsholds and that they are studying dark matter, and how he could travel across other dimensions. Jeff and Rio both don't approve of it. Miles then says he has to go, with Rio asking if he ordered the cakes for tonight, and when Miles stumbles out of the room stuttering on his words, she is disappointed and asks what are we going do with him.

Jeff then also leaves and Rio gets upset because everyone keeps leaving, leaving her the only one in the room left with Mrs Weber. Mrs Weber then says that he is lying to you, with Rio at first mistaking it for Jeff, but with Mrs. Weber saying that it's Miles that's lying to them, and she thinks that Rio knows it too.
