Scorpion is a supporting antagonist in the Sony Pictures Animation 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Background[]

Not much is known about Maximus Gargan's past prior to the film, though at some point in time, he became the poisonous supervillian known as the Scorpion, and most likely underwent a bio-engineering experiment that gave him partial body armor, a mechanical left arm with a scorpion claw, and a lower half with not only two legs that can split into two legs each, but also a scorpion tail filled with poison. He would also become one of the many supervillains that Spider-Man has fought in his ten years as a superhero. At some point later on, he was recruited by the Kingpin to be one of his enforcers and henchmen, and to assist him in his plan with the Super-Collider.

Personality[]

Scorpion is a very sadistic and merciless supervillain who enjoys fighting heroes, and even killing them.

Physical appearance[]

He is a bald man whose lower body and left arm has been replaced not only by mechanical legs that can split into two additional legs and a claw arm respectively, but even with a scorpion tail filled with poison as well.

Appearances[]

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse[]

After a battle between Spider-Man and two of Kingpin's henchmen, Prowler and Green Goblin, which resulted the super-collider exploding (as a result of the Goblin's incompetence, who was then killed in the explosion) and Kingpin killing an injured Spider-Man in the process, Miles Morales finds out that his uncle Aaron Davis is really the Prowler and escapes from his apartment, but the latter tracks him down and leads Kingpin, Scorpion, Tombstone and Doctor Octopus to Aunt May's house, where they and the other Spider-Men summoned by the super-collider (Spider-Man/Peter B. Parker, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and SP//DR, and Spider-Ham) start to fight for the USB drive which destroys the house.

That night, Scorpion and the other villains ambush the Spider-People (Kingpin and the other supervillians having anticipated that they would come and foil the plot) until Miles as the new Spider-Man arrives to help them. Scorpion fights Peni Parker and SP//DR and gains the upper hand by destroying the SP//DR robot. he is about to kill Peni until Spider-Ham prevents him. Scorpion asks if he is a silly cartoon which proves to be his undoing when he is easily defeated by Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir and Peni. After Miles sends all the Spider-People back to their dimensions, defeats Kingpin and destroys the Super-Collider, Scorpion is possibly arrested off-screen.
