Development[]

In December 2021, Lord and Miller revealed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was being split into two parts, because they had written down the story they wanted to tell for the sequel and realized that it was too much for a single film. The progress on both parts was handled simultaneously. The second part was initially expected to be released in 2023, but in April 2022, it was given a release date of March 29, 2024, when Sony Pictures pushed the release of the first part from October 2022 to June 2023.

In December 2024, it was announced that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson would co-direct the film, with Persichetti returning from the first film.[1]

Music[]

Singer D4vd indicated in April 2024 that he was working on a song for the score of Beyond the Spider-Verse. Daniel Pemberton returned from the first two films to compose the film's score by that June when he said he was focused on connecting the Beyond the Spider-Verse score with those of the prior films to provide cohesion between them.

Release[]

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was initially scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024 before being delayed indefinitely in July 2023 due to production delays and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[2][3] From many sources, there were rumors of the film being delayed due to behind-the-scenes drama, which revealed that over 100 artists left the projects due to bad working conditions. There was barely progress or work made on the film and some of the actors, including Hailee Steinfeld and Jake Johnson, had not recorded their lines yet. After the SAG-AFTRA strike ended in November 2023, plans to continue the voice recording were back on track despite the lack of a release date.[4]

On March 31, 2025, it was announced during Sony's CinemaCon panel that the film was given its June 4, 2027 release.[5]

On July 18, 2025, it was revealed that it was delayed again to June 25, 2027, this time to maximize school-aged audiences, and for a better IMAX theatrical window,[6][7]before moving forward a week for the Father's Day weekend.[8]
